Dimapur, March 16 (NE): Amidst the most crucial times happening around the world due to CoVID19, Nagaland still has not yet learned it’s lesson particularly netizens for spreading any information randomly without any thought of it’s consequences after the news is spread.
Since afternoon, March 16, the news has spread, which reads: “Corona Virus finally hits Nagaland”. The news, which has no adject source but adds “according to source- 2 of them were tested positive on 14th March, 04:00 PM.” – unquote.
The Government of Nagaland, stepped in immediately to clear the air, through Department of Health & Family Welfare clarified and declared it as a fake news. No such cases has happened & public need not panic, it informed.
The Chief Secretary of Nagaland, Shri Temjen Toy, IAS has informed not to spread any fake news as such time like this when every agency of Government of Nagaland along with associate NGOs are taking all measures to prevent as well as prepare the state in its combat against the spread of COVID19. Spreading rumors and creating panic through the use of social media regarding infections confirmed in the state is most unfortunate, he said.
All steps are taken to ensure that persons spreading fake news be immediately booked and action taken as per appropriate section of law, he added.
Informing on the fake news going around, the state nodal officer said that those are Fake news and Cybercrime branch is on the job to get hold of the culprits.
Meanwhile, Mokokchung administration also condemned the spreading of fake news and urged the citizens to report to administrations directly for any information required.
Such fake news goes around & once it becomes viral – the most unthinkable happens, we should be a good and responsible internet user, quipped a senior citizen. Any news can be viral particularly on internet – but it becomes the responsibility of who does it, as per a cyber expert. In the long run, the hand of Police will stretch to haunt who have created the news including personalities who helped in making it viral on social media. Concern citizens are asked to be cautious and help the Government as it will help the whole population of Nagaland and ourself, in return.
