Dimapur police seize 12 smuggled pigs from Assam, 8 pigs dead & 4 under quarantine

Dimapur, July 17 (NEx): Dimapur Police today, intercepted a pick up truck from 3rd Mile area in Dimapur and seized 12 Pigs reportedly smuggled from Balijan, Assam. Out of which 8 pigs were found dead and 4 alive placed under quarantine with Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Department.

Taking to twitter, Advisor for Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services and Women Resource Development, R Khing informed that, Dimapur police intercepted and seized 12 Pigs reportedly smuggled from Balijan, Assam. Out of which 8 pigs were found dead, 4 alive and placed under quarantine with AH&VS Deptt.

The postmortem report suggests Classical Swine Fever/African Swine Fever. Serums samples will be collected from live pigs for confirmatory diagnosis of ASW.

All SOPs were followed to dispose off the dead pigs. Further, Khing appealed to the public to be vigil and refrain from buying pigs from unknown source during ban on import of pigs from outside the state.
