COVID-19 cases in India crosses 1 lakh on May 18

Kohima, May 19 (NE): After 109 days since India reported its first COVID-19 positive case in Kerala, on January 30, 2020, the country has crossed its total tally of positive cases over 1 lakh on Monday, May 18, 2020.

According to Union Health Ministry data, the total number of COVID-19 cases climbed to 1,01,139. Out of this, 39,173 persons have recovered and 3,163 lives succumbed to COVID-19 pandemic.

In the last 24 hours, India reported 4,970 new cases of COVID-19 and 134 deaths.

The count of cases rose even as several states announced ease on restrictions for the extended lockdown in force till May 31.

Several states have ordered reopening of markets, local transport and even salons in areas that are considered safe from Coronavirus.

However, schools, colleges, theatres and malls, Gym, public gatherings, religious gatherings are among those that would remain closed.

Worldwide number of infected persons rose to 48,01,282, out of which a total of 17,86,829 persons recovered and 3,18,465 succumbed to COVID-19.
