Chaos in the special train bound for Dimapur; Northeast returnees attacked, two injured

Kohima, May 24 (NE): There was Total chaos in the special train bound for Dimapur carrying 1342 stranded citizens of Northeast India, as passengers were attacked at Danapur Railway station in Bihar during the wee hours of Sunday leaving two injured, informed a returnee on-board the train.

Speaking to NagalandExpress, one of the returnees narrated the nightmare experience which happened at Danapur Railway station in Bihar early this morning around 4 am. The Special train arranged by Haryana government carrying 1345 citizens of Northeast India, including 426 citizens of Nagaland left Gurugram railway station on May 22, 2020 at around 06:00 pm.

As the train reached Danapur Railway station in Bihar this morning around 04:00 am, many people, said to be migrant workers who were waiting in the station got on board the special train bound for Dimapur.

When the returnees on board told them this special train is for Northeast and it will not stop in between, those people de-boarded the train and they managed to lock the doors.

After few minutes, some people started abusing them verbally and shouting at them to open the doors. Eventually they started pelting stones at the train. More than an hour the train was halted at Danapur Railway station. The sudden attack came as a shock to returnees, as most of them were asleep when the incident took place early morning.

A video of the whole incident is taking rounds in different social media platforms, where Men in uniform were also seen attacking through the window. Two people suffered injury in the attack, informed a passenger.

The special train departed Gurugram with 1345 stranded citizens of Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Assam on May 22, at around 06:00 pm.

On the same day, one of the passengers, a 23 year old Naga woman passed away in the train. The body was de-boarded at Kanpur Railway station, two persons also got down at the station to help with all the arrangements and procedures.

As informed by the Government of Nagaland, the train is expected to arrive Dimapur railway station this morning, May 24, 2020, at around 05:40 am, but it was reported that the train had only passed Desari station, Bihar at around 7 am this morning and it keeps halting at every station. Due to this long delay, their stock of drinking water and food is almost over and there is no other options for them to arrange on the train, said the passenger.
