Kohima, September 29 (NEx): The Election Commission of India on Tuesday announced the schedule for by-election in Nagaland to fill vacancies of two Assembly constituencies in the State Legislative Assembly.
Along with Nagaland by-polls, the Election Commission of India has also announced the date for by-election in One Lok Sabha seat in Bihar, and 54 Assembly constituencies of various States.
According to a press note issued by EC, two constituencies in Nagaland; 14 – Southern Angami – 1 and 60-Pungro- Kiphire by-election is scheduled to be held on November 03, 2020. The date of counting is scheduled on November 10, 2020, EC notified.
The Election Commission after taking into consideration various factors like, local festivals, weather conditions, movement of forces, pandemic etc, the below schedule is issued for the by-election in Nagaland.
The date of issue of Gazette notification for by-polls in two constituencies of Nagaland is October 09, 2020, while the last date of filing nominations is October 16, 2020 and date for withdrawal is October 19, 2020.
The EC also notified that in view of spread of COVID-19 the commission on August 21, 2020 has issued broad guidelines, which is to be followed strictly during the by-polls. Adequate numbers of EVMs and VVPATs have been made available for the by-election.
The by-election schedule announced by the Commission today alongwith Nagaland are Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Odisha, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh.
