Kohima, July 31(NEx): India on Friday reported it’s biggest one day spike in the number of COVID-19 cases, a total of 55,078 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, said the Union health ministry data.

With 55,078 new COVID-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours, the total number of confirmed cases in India reached 16,38,870. Death toll rises to 35,747 with 779 new fatalities in the last 24 hours,

Meanwhile, 37,223 more patients recovered from COVID-19 in India, taking the total recovered number to 1,057,805. Active cases in the country now stands at 545,318, said an update from Union Health Ministry today.

The biggest jump in the cases come two days after the government announced the Unlock 3 guidelines.

India achieves another landmark on COVID-19 sample test, more than 6 lakh tests were conducted across the country in 24 hours, informed Union Health Ministry.

Globally, in terms of COVID-19 positive cases, India is followed by Brazil which has reported 2.61 million cases and the United States with 4.58 million.
