Kohima, June 27 (NE): The Minister of Transport, Civil Aviation, Railways, and Land Resources, also Mon district incharge for COVID-19, Shri. P Paiwang Konyak held a meeting with the district administration, Police, Medical department, KBBB, and all the NGOs at Walo Guest House, Mon town, today, June 27, 2020.

On the wake of nine (9) Police Jawans posted at Quarantine centre testing positive for COVID-19, the total lockdown in Mon District has been extended for another week till July 05, 2020 for effective contact tracing. Only twice a week, i.e. Monday and Friday the Vehicle for essential commodities particularly for dry ration will be relaxed with proper scout for Assam to Mon. Earlier, the lockdown was enforced in the whole Mon district till June 28, 2020.

The Minister expressed urgent need of a thorough investigation on how the nine Police Jawans posted at quarantine centres for duty has been infected with the virus. The Police department is directed to submit the detailed report to the Minister at the earliest.

The meeting also discussed at length about the specific/rigorous containment zones within Mon Town. Shamnyu Ward, Zaklom Ward, Thamnan Ward, Shanthem Ward, and Wagiem Ward have been sealed completely after the news of 12 positive cases confirmed out of 29 samples sent to ICMR Dibrugarh.

The Minister requested the citizens of Mon to co-operate with the COVID-19 District Task Force and follow the SOPs strictly as the main purpose of extending lockdown is for contact tracing and to contain the spread of coronavirus outbreak.

The Minister also asked all the departments and Frontline Workers to report at 5:00 pm every evening to assess the situation for further course of action.
